Not necessarily. The MiG-27 and the A-7 were fast. The F-35 is fast. Pilots say that F-16s have to punch afterburner to keep up with a F-35 in dry thrust. It's limited to Mach 1.6 which looks "slow" (it isn't) but the fact is that reaching higher Mach numbers in combat is not common. The fuel expenditure and weapons load limitations from drag make it an ordeal where the juice is not worth the squeeze. The 1950s are also the age before ICBMs - when bombers would be carrying nuclear payload, and high speed interceptors were of utmost importance. Their job was exceptional by design, and not comparable to conventional air combat.

It was withdrawn from attacks on Britain due to excessive losses.

@ondrejdobrota7344 If it was an "insane Wunderwaffe" low repair and output rate wouldn't have mattered. But it got easily swatted out of the sky, so those factors did matter.

@ondrejdobrota7344 Deny it all you want, you're simping for the German propaganda of "wunderwaffen" when it was systematically brought down by the Allies. No further questions.

That comment lacks perspective. The more time spent on repairs, the less up time you have. Motor races are scheduled. Enemy attacks aren't.

The problem is tank kill claims being higher than the actual number of tanks that were present at the battle. Can't even those out.
