  1. They do both. Ukrainians have complained that they are worn down by fighting the waves, and the assault groups come later to exploit their exhaustion and lack of ammo.

  2.  @blugaledoh2669  " I suspicious of any claim that Ukrainian crewmen are somehow better" - It's not as simple as crewmen being better. The Russia killchain is more rigid which means fire missions can arrive with hours of delay. Bombardments last for longer than they should based on doctrine. Crews may not get the orders to stop so they keep shelling a grid that's been abandoned.
