Just like in most of history poor people signed up or were forced to fight due to the conditions they lived in. How the fuck would you support slavery if you were a poor white and couldn't find manual labour because black people were forced to do it for free? You'd hate slavery just like modern Americans hate losing jobs to overseas sweatshops.
