  2. One thing you forgot to mention - war prisoners were a good source of slaves back then. Tribe leaders were not forced to capture other people, they knew that their enemies could be merchandise. 500 years ago and war was already extremely profitable. Slavery is closely tied to race, but the number one reason was greed.

  3. Incidental. That's like saying that Hitler had Jewish heritage. Doesn't change one bit what happened, doesn't justify it and doesn't even make sense. Those people were killed by political reasons, not "in the name of Atheism". The fact that those leaders touted Atheism is a pure Red Herring - and doesn't imply that everyone under their orders were in fact atheists.

  6. What I meant was that slavery was always economical. People just found a way to justify it with race. It's easier to convince yourself you're a Christ-loving "good guy" if the only people you hurt are some weird creatures from a continent everyone once thought to be the end of the world.
