Over a period of time Mexican Federales apprehended something like 27-29 thousand firearms, most of them impossible to trace, only a sample of 11,000 were sent to the ATF. Out of those only about 6,000 could be traced and 90% of those did come from the US. Meanwhile, the cartels are driving around with Belgian-made automatics property of the Mexican government (unaccounted for) that could not have come from the US, anti-air missiles and hand grenades, all of which were smuggled through international illegal arms trade or stolen from Mexican armories. Don't you think that the Mexican government has a vested interest in blaming the US to cover their ass on the fact that their police and military forces are so goddamn corrupt that they'll look the other way while their armories are ransacked by cartels? Damn right I can't compare them to Scandinavia. But they're very comparable to the US. Look at Flint, Michigan, can't even get clean water. Look at Chicago, it's the São Paulo of the US. Shit, Canada and Scandinavia don't border a narco state, the US does. Don't you think that might have some influence on the matter?

There might have been an editing mistake but they asked her to prove the weapon as clear, and she had not "proven" it clear UNTIL she looked down the bore and said "clear". So according to logic, she looked down the bore of a weapon which was not cleared as safe per the standards set. Of course that what she did was safe because the gun was indeed cleared before, but they did taught her to clear a weapon by looking down the bore. All it takes is distraction to override common sense and she might look down the bore of a loaded weapon.

+pepelapiu2004 actually the studies that proved that were plagued with reverse causation. If you get shot, you were X times more likely that you had a gun, because the studies tracked people who got shot, not gun owners and waited for them to get shot (because statistically that doesn't happen). The opposite isn't true, owning a gun doesn't make you X time more likely to get shot. Another problem is that if you live in a bad area that means you're more likely to get shot, you're more likely to get a gun. Therefore buying a gun has no bearing on how likely you are to get shot, but your likelihood of getting shot might push you into buying a gun.

It's not a muzzle-loader, it's a lever-action. They asked her to prove the weapon safe and she did say clear, the cut might be out of context but it did seem like they were asking her to make the weapon safe - not check for obstructions/perform maintenance. If you're "checking if it's safe" ie you don't know if it is, you probably should not look down the barrel after it's been deemed cleared. If you're only saying "clear" after looking down the bore... Yikes.
