All the regulations on healthcare protect Big Pharma and the hospitals/clinics. You can charge big bucks and kill the competition. Could you imagine if you tried to open your own clinic? The amount of bureaucracy you'd have to go through? Most of it is obviously sold as safety measures but all it does is allow hospitals to charge you fifty bucks for tissues to blow your nose. Look at the Daraprim situation, when Turing Pharmaceuticals hiked the price many doctors knew they could replace Daraprim with a combination of two drugs. But most didn't risk giving it to patients despite being cheap as fuck, even though both drugs were tested and considered safe by the FDA they were never approved to be used together as treatment. And since nobody wanted to spend money going through FDA approved trials to make sure you could give the drug combo legally, people had to go through Martin Shkreli's program that would give the drug for free for a few months until a competitor decided to bite the bullet and manufacture a competitor.
