@PrgressiveHouse Okay, in a conversation about people being put on ventilators you said, and I quote "Why is that scary? That doesnt mean that all of the 20-65 year old patients die". You think breathing through a machine isn't scary? "And who is close to death? The 2% (even less) who die from the virus?" - By definition close to death is everyone who required medical intervention to survive. Not those who die. Dying isn't "close to death". You're using death rates to sweep the hospitalized people under the rug. If things spiral out of control and hospitals can't treat everyone... The death rate climbs because of all the people who could have survived.

It is airborne. It can be carried by particles. The virus itself is 50-200 nanometers. Airborne diseases are considered to be the ones which get carried by particles smaller than 5 micrometres. 1000 nanometers is 1 micrometer.

"He said the flu is more like to kill someone way more then this thing" - Please look at Italy and tell me this is less dangerous than the flu.

He's selling toothpaste to combat it apparently.

@jasonbott1339 "Wearing masks doesn't help unless you are coughing/sneezing" - that doesn't even make any sense because coughing will pressurize the insides of the mask and blow the "seal". Meanwhile inhaling will press the mask against the skin. "They are ineffective when not coupled with proper sanitation, hand washing, etc" - No shit. But you need to be doing that without a mask either. "Saying everyone needs to wear one is nonsense." - It's not notsense. The problem is that manufacturers are only now stepping up so we want masks in hospitals and clinics, that's what started the "masks won't protect you" narrative. Because they fucking do. That's why medical personnel needs them.

@jakewellard1830 "Do you think the Spanish Flu is gone?" - the strain no longer exists

Fuck off plenty of places without 5G are going through it.
1
@PrgressiveHouse a) It is scary because it means that the more people get it, the more people need to be hospitalized, which means that a lot of people won't have the care they need to survive. b) Some people have additional health problems. You know obesity and diabetes isn't exactly unheard of in the US, right?
1
@praetor47 Okay, by the 0.2% death rate in the 17-29 age range we can estimate that if 10 million people in that group get it, 20k will die. Seems to me that killing 20k young people is selfish as fuck too.
1
@PrgressiveHouse "seemed to be more concerned about that age aspect" - Because it is a concerning aspect after hearing the narrative that young people are not affected. "I'm not from the US btw." - Most other places have already braced for impact so the conversation is US-centric.
1
@PrgressiveHouse I didn't. Don't put words in my mouth. The first time? Then you're not listening. Look at all the people saying that we should only quarantine the elderly.
1
@PrgressiveHouse What I said: "[the age aspect is concerning] after hearing the narrative that young people are not affected." MEANING: If you have been told that it's only an old person's disease, the fact that younger people are hospitalized is concerning. What you think I said: "I did not think young people were affected." MEANING: I, personally, did not believe that young people were affected until I saw the statistics. You can see that both things are wildly different, right? "but that is not because they think younger people are not affected, but because they think younger, healthy people dont die from it" - That's absolutely retarded. If young people are affected then their contagion will still overstress the healthcare system, there would be not enough resources to keep people alive, and many will die as a result. "They just dont die from it" - See above. Anyone who thinks that we should let it run rampant on the "young" (more like everyone under 55) because it doesn't "kill" is absolutely retarded because the hospitalizations mean that people are in danger of dying without care. If too many people get it at the same time, we can't save them and mortality rates will hike.
1
@PrgressiveHouse "young people dont overstress" - Then you're contradicting the data you've already accepted in previous posts.

@mg659er Without curvature on earth you can't have day/night cycles.

@capitolmobrecords8720 Just breathing of an infected person will put particles in the air. Not disinfecting every single surface you see isn't an "unclean" practice.

s bright "775 people dead so far, hardly a pandemic" - You do understand that the number grows, right? March 11 there were 38 deaths. March 15 there was 68 deaths. March 17 there were 114. There might be 700 people dead so far, but at point you might be getting 700 dead per day. 10 days ago it was killing less than 700 people a day worldwide. It's killing more than 2000 people per day now.

@dwaynecoy1871 "Why in the world would these people go to such great lengths to lie to everyone and cause trouble for millions of people if they know it's not true?" - Because the biggest threat of the virus is collapsing the healthcare systems, and thus they need masks for medical personnel. They can deal with more people getting infected down the line, but they can't deal with doctors dying or being knocked out of commission for weeks. "For someone infected with a respiratory virus, wearing a simple surgical mask can help prevent spreading the virus to others, but for healthy people," - People don't know they're infected until symptoms start. You don't actually know if you're "healthy". "but for healthy people, wearing a mask has limited effectiveness" - So it has some effectiveness.
1
s bright "The rate of growth has been anemic" - That's how it always appears at the start. And give it two weeks.
1
s bright It's not gonna be. The number grows. After all you've seen in Italy, Spain, etc you expect a much larger country to have less problems than them?
1
s bright Nobody in the world has a health system that can handle a bad outbreak. New York alone already has 200 deaths. You can't expect shit.
1
@capitolmobrecords8720 because the context was the general population being dismissive it wasn't clear you were going back to the origin rather than the spreaders.
1
@RaneBane of course it replicates. But if I multiply 1 by 1000 we get 1000 and if we multiply 3 by 1000 we get 3000.

"IT'S JUST A FLU, BRO!"
1
@darrenlowe3445 I'm being ironic. The people who went through it and lived said it's 10 times worse than the fucking flu. Three people in the comments said they have not recovered their sense of smell and taste yet and it's been weeks. You think this is a fucking flu? Then go to a NY hospital and go lick the doorknobs. Go.
