Comments by "Titanium Rain" (@ChucksSEADnDEAD) on "Malcolm Gladwell's Mind-Blowing Theory About Crime Shows" video.
My only exposure to the original series was reruns so I never got a feel for the overarching patterns but there is some logic to an original series tackling more complex topics and then settling into a more "consistent" show for the "turn my brain off in front of the TV" crowd.

@bigoshify there are some episodes where Benson is fooled by lying victims. The show has a lot of fame for being pro-woman so when it happens it's pretty jarring. I don't think these instances are rare because of politics (although the show would definitely get canceled if they portrayed victims as liars) but simply because a lying accuser is a "wildcard" type of episode. You want protagonists solving crimes more than going down wild goose chases.

That's often to break the repetitiveness. "The exception proves the rule" and all that. I am unsure about earlier seasons and I've mostly watched SVU on the last few years but it seems to me they wanted to break the mold by throwing smart villains into the mix, Internal Affairs as the adversary, etc. but it is still mostly a reassuring fantasy.
