  1. +Chris McCartney yeah I got turned off from gaming as well in part due to GG among other reasons, but I think that the whole "gamers are conservative" angle is reductive as hell. Being a hardcore gamer means that you do enjoy games quite a lot, so of course you'll push back against people trying to change gaming. Hating the notion that passionate nerds who make a good job in game development should give up their seat to hack frauds simply because of their gender or ethnic group doesn't mean you're a conservative. Look at how bikers adopted the Iron Cross, the SS bolts, the Totenkopf, etc. The biker lifestyle was anything but conservative and Nazi Germany would have hated the American rider culture. White there are indeed neo-nazi/white supremacist bikers the fact is that people who were sick of society's norms decided to adopt the symbols of the "enemy" in the post-war period for shock value. Gamers are conservatives, gamers are liberals who don't agree with the current liberal narrative, gamers are "classical liberals" who these days are best represented by libertarian philosophy, etc. Some of them are pushing back, some of them just want to game without people berating about how they're privileged white males, some of them are all up in the Milo Yeastinfection hype train.

  2. So the 40 year old men are still trying to pick up girls? The 40 year old men with kids who are probably gamers themselves have a hard time explaining to their kids that they have a dream job? Heck, most people under 35 would consider working with videogames a dream job, as they were in their early 20's when gaming blew up. If you listen to podcats such as the ones put out by Giantbombcast or The Comedy Button you'll see that even the older gaming journalists have no problems explaining to their family what they do and their line of business has actually gained the respect of their elders. More like, the 40 year old gaming journalists are all living in San Francisco and told to appeal to teenagers so they got to do the whole "what corruption in videogames? just respect women, bro. women deserve respect" non-sequitur while the 20-to-30 year olds were indoctrinated in gender theory in college and actually believe they're freedom fighters and they're not pretending at all.

  3. +Chris McCartney I have had the opposite experience because in 2011 I noticed the online community had started to steer towards the extreme left. I had considered myself a pretty left-leaning person but everywhere I looked people were taking it too far with the feminism and racism issues. In 2012 the whole Hitman: Absolution trailer with the assassin nuns made me notice that there was some kind of smear campaign against gaming/gamers that started within the community itself unlike previous anti-gaming efforts of the right-wing/religious nutjobs. If anything, it was only after GamerGate blew up that I noticed that there was an actual "conservative" presence in the community, there was a witch hunt going on and people decided it was best to speak up and rally together. So yeah, anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

  5. +atombrain111 doesn't fucking matter, 99% of the people assume they play videogames for a living. Even though the job is virtually identical to writing articles and making youtube videos about makeup or celebrity gossip or whatever topic you fancy the fact is that most people aren't aware of that. Hey, astronaut is a dream job as well, most people assume it's Top Gun on steroids when it's actually being a top scientist working on a lab.
