Even if for whatever reason they took a loss on this model, the marketing more than paid it off. I wouldn't pay for a car I wouldn't want even if I had the money for it, but someone somewhere has the money and the intent to buy it.

  3. +John Voltz that's not true at all, it's simply the market responding to supply and demand. Rich people aren't gatekeeping anything. A "worthless" Ferrari demanding 50k (I've actually looked it up and apparently some have been found for 25k but that's beside the point) is due to the fact that it's a Ferrari. You're complaining that they're junk and ugly, but you know they're a Ferrari and so would everyone else that would see you driving one down the street. If you're "poor" sports cars may be the wrong hobby, but a middle class person can buy a Ferrari. And the reason why is that people will let go a Ferrari for 25k because if and when something goes wrong it's going to cost another 25k to fix. In the end, anyone who's middle class and has half a brain will not buy a "cheap" Ferrari because they're expensive to maintain.

  4. revolutionday1 You do know that cars have very slim profit margins and they make profits in the service that cars require in their life span, right? A certain model not being profitable is no big deal. Look at all the wasted man-hours on those concept cars that never get produced. There's a higher purpose behind everything, even when you do it out of love for your own customer base. To deny it is to be naive. Sony also lost money on every PS3, and I think PS4, they made on the first batch. They lose money for the sake of establishing a customer base. Sony doesn't make consoles at a loss for the enthusiasts because enthusiasm doesn't pay the bills.

  5. revolutionday1 So far I've only said that cars have thin margins, brands take losses in the name of marketing, and that it's commonplace and a well known practice to let products out the door at a loss in the name of profits to be made somewhere else. If you're scoffing at facts, it's really not our of character considering you're crying about what people do to their private property. You can't redistribute motor vehicles, "Comrade".
