  1. Price gouging is the natural market signal to handle shortage. Price gouging isn't a cause but an effect. An increase in price promotes moderation (keeping prices static during a shortage would cause hoarders to clean the shelves for cheap), keeps businesses afloat during periods of supply drought and signals to the market that if anyone has the stuff somewhere else, they can profit from taking the goods where they're abundant and shipping them to where they're expensive.

  3.  @TheMasterhomaster  This is easily countered by just not buying friggin' eggs. Let the price gougers hold the bag and take the fat L. You'd have a point about inelastic goods if this was healthcare or something, but it's just eggs. If everyone stopped buying eggs for a week, the prices would go through the floor. I saw this happen with ammo 2020-2022. People would not stop buying. Empty shelves every day make sure prices stay high.
