Amazing how every time something happens, it's to cover up everything else. And these cover ups keep happening all the time. Makes total sense.

The Canadians used the 20mm cannons in their CF-18s to put a thousand rounds into a weather balloon. It had to be shot down by Russia. That's how slow they leak.
2
You really want to grab a shovel and dig across a miles wide debris field?
2
Those aren't missiles, they're glide vehicles. The actual missile rocket motor is massive, requires a launcher vehicle the size of a truck to carry one.
2
They already recovered pieces from the sea. Bringing a balloon down slowly doesn't work. Canada tried it. After a thousand rounds of 20mm cannon fire from CF-18s, it crossed the Atlantic and got shot down by Russia. That's how bad your solution is. A BB? Try 20mm rounds. A thousand of them. Still didn't descend within reach.

60k ft isn't enough.

They clearly stopped it.

@j.langer5949 By those babies being too expensive for authoritarian regimes to employ. How are we going to stop the T-14 Armata and Su-57 Felon??? Turns out that parade floats for corrupt dictators don't do well in shooting wars.

Look up the Canadian incident with a weather balloon in 1998. What you're proposing was attempted. It failed in an embarassing fashion.
1
Doesn't work. Canada tried that in 1998.
1
@jerrymillerstein It doesn't work. Look up the 1998 balloon debacle in Canada. A thousand rounds and the balloon still crossed the Atlantic.
1
@jerrymillerstein Who knows? We know. We all like to pretend to be smarter than the powers that be but it's necessary to just stop and admit lack of knowledge. They're still looking for the debris that landed over Canada, while the sea stuff was found quickly. You can't control the slow descent. Could have ended up in a lake anyway. Could have ended up in Russia like the 1998 weather balloon.
1
@jerrymillerstein I misread the article and thought it was Russia. So by your own admission, it could have splashed in the Atlantic or North Sea because we'd have no control over the balloon, and the slow leak would have allowed it to fly halfway across the world. Thanks for helping the case - splashing it over continental tectonic plate at 50 foot depth is better than letting it sink into the rift in the middle of the ocean.
1
@jerrymillerstein Over land it would crash and require digging. Over 50 feet of water? Rookie divers could have recovered it. It wasn't in the deep sea. Again, so by your own admission, the cannon wouldn't have worked because it wouldn't land where you wanted it to. Right?

It's a story.
1
@bluerock4456 It's not. The story makes no sense and it's not plausible for Norway to use an aircraft they could not have used at the time.
1
They really can't. Air defense and the European theater are not under the same area of responsability. Same as the Pacific, Africa or the Middle East. The US has separate command and control for those regions.

Elon isn't about free speech, Twitter censored people for questioning the past (and lies) of one of his friends. Elon's politics are "please stop fighting, I need to make money off authoritarian regimes.
1
Would you rather dive 50 feet and collect the pieces, or have to dig across Montana?
1
@brookcodyprice Forensic data recovery is pretty good. If you want to hide something from the authorities, you'd be better off writing the disc several times over than trying to destroy it physically.
1
@gviehmann Seeker is on for tracking. You perhaps meant the warhead.

Objectively? An anti America nutter who can't get an outlet to publish his fanfiction is trying to convince people hos claim to fame 50 years ago lends credibility to his prose.

@RogueReplicant Radioactive pellets would betray the origin.
1
It didn't happen.
1
Look up the Canada attempts to shoot down a weather balloon in 1998. Please stop acting like a know it all when what you say is disconnected from reality. A weather balloon was "poked" a THOUSAND times with 20mm CANNON rounds. It crossed the Atlantic and got shot down by Russia.

I also spray aerosolized pathogens. It's called a sneeze. More effective than high altitude deliveries of pathogens which will be destroyed by UV before they reach the ground.
