  1. 14th century Europe birthrates were much higher, and what sort of public hospitals and retirement plans do you think existed in the 14th century? Higher wages and affordable housing is great, but if you're 65 and there's nobody to stock the shelves at the grocery store or to see you at the doctor's office you're not going to have a very fun retirement.

  3. There's a ton of generals who'd like to retire in peace and avoid tribunals. What will they do, give the keys to the Chechens and Ingush and spend the rest of their lives on the run, or just wave the white flag and hand them over to us?
