@NathansHVAC Only when you ignore the curvature of the earth. Turkey found out the hard way the brochure range for the S-400 is only for very high altitude targets.

The US wrote the book on defeating Soviet/Russian AD. Then tossed it at Saddam in 1991.
5
But the Gripen doesn't have enough airframes to go around, while the F-16 has thousands manufactured and some retiring right now.

Mearsheimer should be sat down Clockwork Orange style and forced to watch the Russian way of war. The brutality and carnage would psychologically break him. There's at least 7 suicides published publically caught by Ukrainian drones. That's how bad the war us going for Russia. They either pull the trigger on themselves or hold a live grenade next to their head. That's how they learned to adapt. Realizing that nobody is coming, and Russian healthcare will not prevent them from remaining heavily disabled.

@KenHicksJr Address the argument rather than deal in platitudes.
2
Their world class system failed to protect Moscow several times and just the other day Ukraine destroyed a Tu-22 strategic bomber because air defense failed.
2
The S-400 has kind of been fraudchecked in this war.
2
@DrSQUIRRELBOY12 And in that call Nuland is saying that the Ukrainian opposition should take the deal and accept the PM office while Yanukovych stays as president. The US wanted to keep the Putin stooge in Ukraine to stabilize the situation.
2
It's not an escalation. Ukraine already had jets before. Russia used jets from the start. Where is the escalation when everyone is on the same level?
1
They have Russian jets. Which is kind of tough when a) they're not great and b) they're fighting Russia so they can't buy parts to keep them flying
1
How?
1
@philipcoffman4372 This was confirmed by whom?
1
@Tigadee00 AWACS is more of a "map" in the corner of your screen, nose radar in a fighter is the hand moving the mouse so you can put the crosshair on the enemy.
1
lol they're getting 42 retired F-16s that will be replaced by F-35s. Everything?
1
@joshuapaul2022 Who's lining up to buy Russian? Turkey was pretty salty when in the Russian arms expo Altay claimed to be selling more S-400s to them.
1
And Russian oligarchs have mansions and downtown high rise apartments in France, the UK, the US, Italy, Greece, etc...
1
MiGs crash if you look at them wrong. Did you miss the big headlines in the 2000s? MiG-29s kept getting grounded in Russia due to constant crashes. Indian pilots probably have MiGs as the leading cause of death.
1
They got spent and the products delivered. The transactions happened, they just didn't get the paper records properly digitized.
1
There's so much footage it's insane.
1
@philipcoffman4372 Russians used anti-air missiles in INS/GPS mode to strike ground targets and Shaheds to make up for the missile shortage. When you have to throw rocks to make up for lack of bullets, you're running out.
1
In the early days Russia struck hangars in Ukrainian bases. Ukrainians took aerial photos of the craters and printed large covering tarps with the pictures so that they could rebuild the hangars but satellite photos would still see craters. If you kept up with the war, you'd have noticed by now that Ukrainians have outsmarted the Russians.
1
I double dog dare them. Ours actually work.
1
The same S-400 systems that failed to protect Moscow and air bases in Russia? The same ones that had one of their radars visited hy HIMARS in Kherson?
1
Javelins have one factory to cast the warhead which is a bottleneck. Javelins were made to stop a Rusdian tank rush. Do we need a stockpile of them? Not anymore. The US has 155mm, it just can't draw from a strategic stockpile.
1
Their survival isn't threatened. They can just leave and the war ends.
1
Two Russian S-300s destroyed recently, video was released yesterday.
1
@sibiryak5747 Russia.
1
They're feeling the squeeze of the coof policies for the past 3 years. The war is pretty tame in comparison.
1
Both sides used fighter jets since day one.
1
Brother the US was actually in a shooting war in Russia-backed Syria and despite the close calls there were no nukes.
1
Not really.
1
The Gripen was designed for "let's lose the war less quickly" warfare. Basically deter invasion by making sure that the invading force is bled dry. You don't have the money to have a large standing army that overpowers the enemy, so you let your enemy know that they'll win but it will cost them so much they shouldn't even try. Ukraine has to overpower Russia. A deterrence fighter meant for guerrilla won't work in the offensive.
1
@@OhlordyWeArefalling They're as cheap as Block 70/72 F-16Vs. Maintenance cost is about 20-25% higher than F-16s.
1
@@OhlordyWeArefalling Wrong. The 1.6 trillion figure is for the purchase and maintenance of 2000 F-35s from 2010s to 2070s.
1
@curiositycloset2359 the F-35 isn't obsolete. It's the most high tech fighter until NGAD enters service.
1
They're really good at practicing being the targets.
