  6.  @MilanTukidid  It's not true to the meaning. Foreign nationals in Ukraine receive Ukrainian papers and are put under the command of the Ukrainian military, making them legitimate combatants. They don't fight for money, because the pay is atrocious. You'd be better off just making minimum wage in a Central European country or the US. How else you'd call them? The name that has always been used - volunteers. In the Spanish civil war, what do you call the foreign nationals: volunteers or mercenaries? Answer truthfully.

  8.  @MilanTukidid  They're not mercenaries. They're under command of the Ukrainian military, and not getting paid wages higher than the soldiers of the same rank. Are French Foreign Legionnaires mercenaries? Wagner doesn't operate in the same way. They're a private company. The fact that the Russian state provides citizenship to foreign workers for a company doesn't change the fact that they are contracted for a higher pay than soldiers get in Russia. Pay is HIGHLY relevant because it is one of the ways to determine mercenary status. People who volunteer for a war (like the Spanish civil war) are not mercenaries.

  10.  @festekj  So? If you depend on Russia and China, them being weakened means they'll be forced to deal with you in more favorable terms. They would align, how? Why is in NK's interest to fall trying to defend Russia or China? Why would Iran fall trying to defend them? They'd say "not my problem", and then deal with whatever remains.

  15.  @dughallhalliday1713  Ukraine used Bakhmut as a speedbump that stood for months longer than it should ever have. The overland communications will be struck, and Crimea abandoned like Kherson city. The Ukainians did it before, they'll do it again.
