@ablobofslime4612 Nah. If I bully you, you can choose to ignore what I say, you can choose to block me, you have the power to make it not affect your life. If I cancel you, I won't even talk to you. You won't be bullied. You'll just find out that your job says they can't keep you employed because you're too controversial. That's not a form of bullying. That's a form of ending careers.

Anonimity at least affords you a way to say something and slip into the crowd. Half of these "cancel" type people show themselves out in the open because they have the "correct" opinions.

@warren5037 what the fuck does Charlottesville have to do with anything? You think making people afraid and applying a tyrannical Chinese Social Score system is the answer? Making everyone known so that they don't step out of line? Riots? Who said anything about riots? You want to make it illegal for people to cover their face during protests? Would I be commenting if you knew me? Sure. I would tell you right to your face that your anti-privacy and anti-anonymity ideas would be the downfall of the human race. 250 million people killed by their own governments in the 20th century. But your best argument is Charlottesville.

@warren5037 Oh shit if Charlottesville is the extreme case I'll gladly take a thousand Charlottesvilles over mandatory identification to use the internet. It's a way for the government to track dissidents and punish them by denying them access to employment, travel, etc and isolating them from other people. There's no reconciliation possible and people are willing to fuck over people even when real names are involved. Nothing would change. You have proposed that anonymity is dangerous and yet all you can do is deflect whenever pressed into discussing the consequences of eroding anonymity and thus privacy.

@warren5037 bullshit. If anything anonymity prevents violence. How many people exposed tyranny thanks to anonimity and the ability to not be victimized? How many people were able to voice controversial opinions without suffering real life consequences?

Who's trying to cancel Zoe Quinn? There's a difference between asking for a fair assessment of her claims and if found to be false put in motion the procedures to make her liable for the consequences, and trying to "cancel" soneone.
