I feel bad for pointing it out but the idiom is "nip it in the bud". You cut it out from a plant before it grows out. I used to say "the gig is up" and "butt naked" (instead of jig and buck naked) because we hear idioms without ever reading them in text.

@Solidekans84 What people wanted was not being lied to. They're gonna have to pull out the time machine to do that. Don't you understand that breaking others' trust isn't something that gets fixed by correcting the mistske? They did what was legally required of them. To truly get redemption they're gonna have to work for it.

@Solidekans84 We will complain because wrongdoers need to be shamed. This is the equivalent of letting people get away with anything with just a fine and slap in the wrist. Social shaming is needed to keep people in check. Or else people will just do whatever and not think about consequences, thinking they can just pay it off.
