  1. There's also the great circles (aircraft take the shortest path by moving away from the equator) and the jet stream which changes how long flights take based on headwind vs tailwind. Wouldn't be possible on a flat model.

  3. Except you don't need to be told. If you ever went to a beach with cliffs nearby you could compare the view at different heights by yourself.

  4. They also have expansion relief cuts. Back in the day if steel rail was set cold and then during the summer the temperature raised past a certain point, the rails would expand and with nowhere to go they'd start bending hemselves. So we now have a small space between rail segments so they can expand and contract freely.

  5. Winter in the Nothern hemisphere means they have the long nights there right now. You have to go to the South Pole to see the 24h sun. But yes my father saw the midnight sun when he was in Norway 20 years ago.
