@Prismate homie actually answered the question and all you got is jokes

@ssfbob456 The issue is that people look at shitcoins and think that's all there is to it. Meanwhile, actual central banks are looking into making "real" money crypto too. Tracking all transactions. The ability to program money to lose value if you try to save it, to promote consumption and drive the economy. People say "lol I'll keep the paper money" and don't realize that one day things will be cashless.

It shouldn't be an investment. People trying to het rich off others is what created the problem in the first place.
2
Did you see what happened to the Ruble?
2
@danwilliams4270 Which is a meaningless metric because that's the Russian exchange. Due to sanctions, importers have less needs for dollars as they can't buy as many foreign goods. The Russian government is also artificially propping the Ruble value which also muddies the waters.

What value was added to the world when a central bank decides to print a few billion on a whim?

@Jake-bt3fc You don't get what's "supposed", you get what the government gives. Energy is only a factor for proof of work.
1
@Jake-bt3fc First of all, you clearly didn't even understand my post. I said there's alternatives to proof of work. Second, proof of work isn't "turning" anything into an "economy" - it's how trust is enforced by preventing people from manipulating the public ledger. You literally do not understand how crypto works. You cannot make a new currency without crypto. Your currency idea? Needs crypto technology.
1
@Jake-bt3fc Then how do you prevent anyone from hijacking the currency, genius? I like the "pedantic" edit, you fundamentally misunderstood crypto and assumed the cryptography aspect creates wealth rather than the economy itself. Now you're trying to walk it back.
1
And they'll continue after. There's regulations on central bank money and the Nigerian prince is still emailing people to this day.
1
That's not what crypto is. That's what people think crypto is. All value is subjective. We do create value out of "nothing". Even gold can be completely useless in certain circumstances.
1
@PropaneWP Okay, what is "printing" here? Shitcoins? Tether printing coins that aren't actually backed by purchases? Or the mining itself? No, it fundamentally make scams a way of scamming people. Scams exist with all currencies in the world, you learn to avoid them. The regular currency will become crypto. Governments tracking every transaction? The ability to code money to lose value over time to promote consumption when the economy isn't doing too well? Crypto is far too useful, to the point that governments will use it for nefarious purposes. I'm not kidding, look it up. There's central banks considering having their monetary system run on crypto. It's not going to happen tomorrow or next year, but check back in a few decades.
1
@PropaneWP No. People who want to get rich quick revolve around speculation and trading. Usefulness would be further ahead if it wasn't for the extreme volatility brought in by the people who'd rather gamble. NFTs could have uses such as digital contracts. Right now the only uses getting exposure are buying and selling jpegs. So you say NFTs are all about scamming the next sucker. When that's not the only thing the tech could do.
1
Doesn't prevent scamming.
1
@AGayTwitterArtist Cryptocurrency technology itself isn't a scam. It's just being used for scams. Thanks for proving my point. Read your own post. You're agreeing with me, but I'm the shitter? Yeah, the scams with USD typically involve asking you to buy worthless garbage or trick you into sending it directly.
1
@heyro3852 Bad faith argument. Scams were ran with money all the time. Here's this unregulated market - you send money to the Nigerian prince, you won't get it back.
1
There's legislation against scams with real money, people still pull the stuff.
1
Everything is based on nothing.
1
@murderedcarrot9684 That's the weirdest take possible. The mining is what makes proof of work possible.
