@bdhale34 the Geneva convention isn't relevant because they're not at war. The relevant stuff would be labor laws and how they intersect with a gameshow/challenge. You can't force a person to work 48 hours straight but you can pay someone to go through sleep deprivation for studies and whatnot.

@yesbabelon Even if they explained the risks they'd be found liable. You can't put someone at risk as a condition to win the challenge. If I expain the danger it doesn't remove the liability if I challenge you to run through a hall of running chainsaws stuck to the floor and walls. Sleep deprivation is bad for your health and shouldn't have been part of the challenge.

@blvdes It's not apologia, it's just a fact of life that people will serve their time and re-enter society. Like it or not.

@SimplCup Jake Weddle was obviously too emotional but you remind me of the people 20 years ago saying waterboarding was not torture. Those who accepted being waterboarded changed their mind. If you were put on that room you'd break too. Because everyone breaks.

@DeeCeeHaich The entire point was making the time spent in there unbearable so the participant would quit. There's a difference between being sleep deprived for legitimate reasons (such as medical studies) and for others to be entertained out of one's suffering. If the point is to make someone suffer then it's torture. And making him suffer was the objective.

@Salami_Hunter It is a black and white situation, because any real company would have an ethics oversight and shut down the idea. It seems without any sort of restraint the mrbeast team is gonna end up recreating the Japanese gameshow with the naked dude.

@D_an_ To me, the brass tax is the death by a thousand papercuts. If he's hiring legitimately awful people and covering for them, but ALSO the content is fake, the charities are fake and they technically violated some rules on how to conduct sweepstakes then the entire thing is not worth redemption. People can say focus on the serious crimes but youtubers have apologized for their sex scandals and kept on trucking. In MrBeast's case even if he apologizes and the fanbase forgives him, there's no actual reason to remain a fan.
