What devastating defeat? The Taliban were pretty much hunted for sport and then the US left.

@apacademy There weren't millions of civilian deaths as a result of the US invasion of Afghanistan or Iraq.

@davidb2206 The US won against the communist insurgents. The VC were nearly totally wiped out during the Tet Offensive. After Warergate shook things up, North Vietnam broke the peace treaty and invaded the South.

@davidb2206 The Tet Offensive was almost like a last ditch effort so see what it sticks. It was an unmitigated disaster. It's the 10th round in a 12 round fight and your opponent uses his last remaining strength to throw bombs. Do you throw in the towel or just hold strong, then pick him apart when he's too tired to fight back? Dead men walking are a thing. There's people with fatal wounds who decided to keep fighting for a few more minutes. Just keep shooting. You're trying to portray this as anything other than shock value. You are acting on emotion. Germany couldn't do a Tet Offensive because any equipment that could be used by a guerrilla force was needed at the frontlines, so there was never a true effort to train and equipment the mythical "werwolf" units. If they could muster the effort, they'd have done it, and it would be incredibly annoying to see people crying about it on youtube comments 80 years later.

@anyakosta364 Biden broke the rules by delaying the withdrawl...

But the US resoundingly defeated the Taliban. It just signed a peace deal and left. Like said in this documentary, they are capable of just going back again. Can the Taliban survive another culling?

@inamulkara The US didn't accept an unconditional withdrawal. The Taliban broke the conditions. The Taliban's control isn't solidified. And Afghanistan is not at peace. Not only there's a spat with Pakistan (former Taliban supporters) there's also the terror attacks by ISIS-K. Ironically, the US had given indirect support to the Taliban by conducting air strikes against ISIS-K.

@davidb2206 In WWII the Germans weren't divided between East and West Germany and East Germans managed to infiltrate West Germany. You're like the second person I encounter trying to make this nonsense point. A German can't just go to France and pretend to be French. A Vietnamese person sympathetic to the communist regime can take a trip to a city and stash a few weapons. Also, funny how everyone is so focused on what was essentially a massive terrorist attack. The Tet Offensive was a massive military failure that happened to result in a political victory by demoralizing the US public. You're just going to bring up examples of bad stuff no matter how unconnected they are.

@JsfosstdjsfJsfos-lf4tg billions in MRAPs and M113. Lol the kind of stuff we dump out at sea to help build coral reefs.

@fatalmokrane Lie. The Taliban showed up after Operation Cyclone. The US armed the Mujahideen.

@deidradahl2802 8,000 dead from the invasion, 230,000 dead from the insurgency and sectarian violence. The majority of lives claimed in Iraq were by the hand of fellow Iraqis.

@deidradahl2802 9/11 happened because Osama Bin Laden was personally offended at the Saudi govt asking for US assistance to protect them from Iraq. 9/11 was caused by the ego and delusion of a trust fund kid from a billionaire family.
