They will know if someone climbs on top of them and starts punching them in the face. In most self-defense shootings, NO SIGHTS ARE USED. The defendant can't see what he's aiming at because the attacker is so close that he/she can't bring the gun to eye level. In self-defense, you're so close that you're more likely to have to stick the gun into your opponent's body and pull the trigger without any aiming than take a 35 yard shot. Just the fact that criminals are aware that blind people can carry can possibly save a blind person from being a victim.

Why do you think there's soldiers coming back with PTSD? Even drone pilots get PTSD, and all they have to do is push a button from thousands of miles away. The kind of people who gun down a ton of people are sick, having to stab people isn't a problem for them.
