Anti air missiles past a certain generation usually have an inertial navigation system to keep an updated track file on their position if the launching site for whatever reason loses radar track or communication. Adding a rudimentary ground attack system would be comparatively simple in the grand scheme of anti air missile development. If the missiles are close to their retirememt date it's worth shooting them to save more expensive missiles.

  5. The US wasn't at war during either of those. North Vietnam broke the peace agreeements and the US wasn't willing to restart the Vietnam war so they left. Similarly in Afghanistan, the Taliban and Kabul had a peace deal. The Taliban made alliances with the tribal regions and took over territory after the US withdrew combat troops.

  7. If you're against war, you have to be in favor of sending the most powerful weapons that make the aggressor hurt beyond belief. People always remember to not touch the stove when the fire burns them. Take Putin's hand and stick it on the flame. Ignore the screaming. Make it memorable. And make sure Xi sees it too.
