Through history every kind of weapon was "military style". In fact many people hunt with surplus military rifles. Pistols, revolvers and shotguns were used by the military as well. They used everything civilians also had. It was only in the first half of the last century that civilians kept purchasing older style guns for tradition's sake, due to higher cost of new technology, because the technology wasn't good enough or because they actually believed myths about newer guns being worse. This created a fictional "divide". You know what are real military style weapons? Mortars, artillery, grenades, things that actually serve military purposes. A rifle or pistol sidearm? Fulfills the same objective as a civilian rifle or pistol.

"they did not create the constitution at all with regard to minorities" didn't they actually put a law on the books that said that importation of slaves had to end within 20 years as a compromise to get support from slave owners in creating the united states? aka they foresaw the abolition but could not put it in place without pissing off powerful people?

"If no one has been murdered in your town since 1981, but you still feel you need all those guns for protection" that's like saying "if you haven't been bit by bugs then why do you wear bug repellent?" Maybe the bug repellent has something to do with the fact I haven't been bit???
