I had to look it up, when he was born it belonged to the Russian Empire. So he was Russian-American rather than Ukranian-American.

@ilikeskies For example John McCain was born in what today is Panama but because the military base was US territory he was born in America. This isn't complicated. At the time Sikorsky was born in Russian territory, making his birthplace Russia. Cities have changed hands through history. If you're talking about a historical figure you don't say he was born in Istanbul, Turkey, you say he was born in Constantinople.
