  1. A small car didn't make much sense when gas was cheap, nowadays it doesn't make sense when any SUV or truck will crush it like a beer can in a collision. The Smart car was successful in Europe thanks to the higher gas prices, narrow streets, lack of parking space and having that frame that gives reasonable protection to the occupants.
