Even the Red Baron knew to always come from behind/blind spots and preferably with the sun on your back so that the glare would make it impossible to see the dot in the air getting closer. Stepping outside the realm of manned USAF aircraft you also have drones, the F/A-18, the Harrier, Apaches, etc doing CAS. Almost every aircraft does CAS now. Other countries use F-16s, Dassault Rafales, etc for CAS. The A-10 is not unique or special.

But you didn't. You read the hit pieces based on David Axe's flawed reporting of the facts.

@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ The A-10s were made until 1984 and except for the ones made in in the last year of the production run, they had fuselage defects that lead to early stress fractures and required a structural upgrade. The airframes are still in use because some of them had entire sections replaced.

@zlpatriot11 The A-10 was supposed to have been retired in the 90s. Saying they "want to replace it for the more costly F-35" is a very misleading way to put it.
