Running doesn't help, though. In a fight you are using anaerobic metabolism which breaks down glucose and forms lactic acid (fatigues the muscle and causes you to "gas out"). You can have the cardio of a marathon runner and gas out simply because you requested more energy than the mitochondria can provide via aerobic metabolism. At most, the aerobic training via running helps recover after you depleted energy by bringing oxygen to the cells, but you need to train the anaerobic metabolism to deal with lactate, glycogen, Ca2+ ions, reactive species of oxygen and nitrogen, etc.

Only relevant for the aerobic metabolism. Type II fibers used for fast twitch contractions (strikes, shooting takedowns) have lower density of blood vessels and mitochondria which means that even a person with thicker blood can't restore energy to Type II fibers within the 5 minutes of a round.

Jogging is steady state cardio. In fights you have to explode.

Iccanui It's fucking amazing how a person can be nice and respect others despite the difference of opinions, but people would rather be assholes because they can't stand an opinion that doesn't match their own.

@medsed1133 Rounds are scored individually, not as a whole like Muay Thai

+Prophet if you hit a jab it doesn't matter if you're going forward or backwards. It's a hit.

+Adrian N. not throwing shade but unless you just happen to have a gym right next to you how would moving out of the city make it any easier? You'd have to spend more time driving to and from the gym, and honestly you'd be working the same hours.

+Iccanui so by your own standards Muhammad Ali didn't win all those fights because he was running.

Iccanui >"This is not Conners normal style, he was gassed and looking for escape imho" Whenever there's a controversial decision people use this argument that if you step out of your normal style, you're losing. That argument is simply flat out wrong. If Conor was using his normal style he'd have lost. His normal style involves being a bigger man than his opponents, and Nate is 6'0. Your argument is like saying that an army that retreats to favorable position and causes heavy casualties to the the advancing enemy "lost" the battle. It's stupid to fight in unfavorable positions. >"he was done" Gassing is only a big thing because usually the one who gasses gets his ass beat. Gassing but still being able to stay ahead of the score cards is a feat, but it doesn't influence the decision in favour or against.

@the_famous_reply_guy Would still result in increased bone density and tendon strength. Plus you're supposed to train antagonist muscles. Not only do antagonist movements are used on the side opposite of your punch, you get the benefit of being stronger in the "stiffening" phase.
