@88magikk most lactose intolerance that is not caused by underlying conditions is mild enough that the people that have it can still consume some milk (in quantities that would be available in ancient farming). Plus the old style of processing that creates yoghurt creates lactase through baterial activity which allows lactose to be digested, I think industrially produced yoghurt is different, though. Point being many cultures in the world still used farm animal milk, even though it's more common for Europeans to be tollerant to a high degree.
