It's a popular hoax to claim that the government took funds and that shit spreads through chain emails since the 2000s. Just like there's a popular hoax that congress members are exempt from paying into social security and whatnot. The real answer would be that most likely the private sector is subsidized by the taxpayer meaning that providers have lower operational costs, which allows insurance companies to charge very little. In the US the medicare/medicaid recipients are subsidized by the private insurance customers. But of course, being able to see the nuance requires a little more effort than saying "muh rights".

It's important to consider that WW2 wage ceilings mandated by the government caused employers to offer benefits as a way to pay "more". Eventually the government also passed legislation that made healthcare benefits tax-free. There's almost no consumer choice.

@GeoFry3 Under communism there's no state and ownership is defined differently. You can own personal objects but not "property" such as a house or a factory. If you vacate a house it becomes public because you can't own it.

No. Socialism is worker's ownership of the means of production and the prohibition of profit. Communism is when you have that in a stateless society. That's why the USSR was controlled by communist parties. They were nominally socialist states, lead by communists. The communists were meant to oversee the transition from state to stateless.
