@ZeranZeran The shelter would only be useful if you were warned. Duck and cover was developed for in case you see the flash. You only have seconds. If you duck after the flash, you escape most of the initial radiation and the wounds from the glass windows being blown into the room.

The older you are, the less likely you'll be affected. When Fukushima happened, the older workers volunteered to be the first in the cleanup because they knew that it would take decades for cancers to appear, so they wouldn't suffer the consequences the young workers would.

EMPs will not affect all devices equally. The smaller they are, the less of an "antenna" they have to receive the pulse.

@clintonmorgan9068 No, it's because the US actually studied nuclear detonation survival by interviewing the Japanese who made it out alive from Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

@jlove8445 There's no world war dawg. In world wars everyone is fighting all over the planet and countries are armed to the teeth. Russia is down to T-62s.

They are livable. The cities were rebuilt.

@humanbeing8400 Radioactive isotopes have a half-life. The most dangerous isotopes are gone within 3 weeks.

But the US spends more on welfare than the military.

Nope. Duck and cover was known to be a life saving measure thanks to interviews with Japanese survivors. People who instinctively ducked and cover survived a nuke dropped right above them while Japanese people who stood to look at the flash died.

The point is that the information has to be absorbed and the context to why it might be needed is not important. If you're receiving a set of instructions on how to survive a nuke, your brain will instantly come up with questions like "why would my country get nuked, why would my city get nuked, why haven't anti-missile systems stopped the nuke?" and the point is to get your mind to stop wandering and just focus on the information.
