  1. Visual ID from inside the cockpit has lead to countless mistakes. That's why in close air support it's the ground controllers that authorize weapons release, not the pilot.

  2. Is this a joke? It has outstanding range thanks to the massive internal fuel load. The "low cost" fighters are as expensive as F-35s and require all the ultra high tech you criticize - but are forced to carry it in pods.

  3.  @khoipham8303  It restores energy easy. Pilots say a F-16 has to use afterburner to keep up with dry thrust F-35s.

  4.  @AKlover  What a riddiculous comment. It absolutely is a fighter, rookie pilots in the 35 are splashing experienced pilots at Red Flag. It murders everything in the air that isn't a F-22, how is it not a fighter? Drones are cheap but do not have the performance.

  6.  @mr_beezlebub3985  I don't see what's so foolish. Anything that breaks a quality optic is going to do a number on the person holding it. It all depends on what the circumstances are. If it's something that's going to be stored for a long time sure, zeroed backups will be there in case the batteries drain.

  8. Wrong. The F-35 was made for export but at this point is so advanced, there was a proposal to stick the F-35 systems on the F-22.

  9. The F-35 is a bargain for what it is. Look up the contracts for Block 70/72 F-16s. Your jaw will hit the floor.

  10.  @AKlover  The name-calling already shows the lack of intellect you're displaying. Yes, drones do not have pilots. They're also typically slow and carry light payloads. Structural limits are a big deal. What happens when you pull 9Gs with several 2000lb bombs on your pylons? As it stands, there's no drone in service that can match the F-35. The F-35 is not "reduced" to anything. It's the backbone of the USAF's air power, said Gen. Brown.

  11.  @briantaylor8197  The sensor fusion in the 35 in unrivaled and no 4th gen has the same abilities. The F-20 was a sales failure precisely because the countries that were interested wanted the more capable F-16, but couldn't get it until export restrictions were lifted. The A-10 is outdated and should have been retired in the 1990s as originally planned.
