@goldendiamond761 Tactical means it deals with the frontline and the support immediately behind it. A strategic attack means going after power plants, factories, rail hubs, ports, etc.

@ManOfChaiTea Cheney was unironically right

Syria has S-300s and Russian-operated S-400s.
2
There's a thousand F-35s made, and like 14-16 Su-57s in flying condition.
2
S-400s can't even defend themselves from ATACMS.
2
@keithlillis7962 US pilots also called the F-4 the "lead sled". The F-4 is the world's biggest distributor of MiG parts.
1
@keithlillis7962 the F-4s were lost in high speed ambushes, not due to lack of guns. Stop repeating 20 year old History Channel fiction.

Typhoon is 4th gen.
1
You can't buy an A-10. Company went out of business. So they're literally priceless.
1
@KyoushaPumpItUp If F-16 pilots can handle it, why would the F-35 with superior SA have a higher workload? Forget AI. 80s and 90s tech was able to pull it off.
1
Well that S-70 needed a Su-57 to shoot it down when it lost control. There will aways be a human in the loop.
1
They can't be slimmer. The weapons payload and fuel is what makes the F-35 so good. Slimming it down makesit weaker and shorter range.
1
The F-35 doesn't replace the F-15. It's a single engine multirole like the F-16. The twin engine air superiority fighter? F-22.
1
But there are around 170 F-22s in flying condition compared to a thousand F-35 and counting.
1
@ThomasBestonso-zr4ko it came back with half the plane missing because it has to run the gauntlet to do its job. Everyone agrees not getting hit in the first place is better than purposefully trying to get hit.
1
Again lying about the weather conditions. It can fly in rain, there was just a moratorium on peacetime flights inside thunderstorms.
1
@Jeff55369 You can carry external missiles on 5th gen.
1
@Jeff55369 the 4th gen will eventually become more expensive to operate. Older aircraft aren't the 1990s Toyota that refuses to stop. Eventually they become relics, with maintenace crew retiring, parts out of production, etc. The USAF brought back the Bronco to operate during Op Inherent Resolve. It was shelved after one year due to the unreasonable expenses of maintaining an old aircraft.
1
Upgrading with what? S-400s have been defeated by ATACMS.
1
Not air force terminology. F-16, for example.
1
The NGAD is the F-15/F-22 replacement and unrelated to the F-35.
1
Look up the Brazilian contract for the Gripen - over 200 million per aircraft.
1
@Coyote27981 Wing loading mattered in the 1970s. The F-16 has higher theoretical wing loading than the F-4. That's because old fuselages were metal tubes. Now fuselages are lifting bodies (they act as wings).
1
If you equate fuel by pounds and not 50% fuel level it has more than >1 TWR. The problem is that most fighters carry fuel externally so they report high TWR on 50% internal fuel. The F-35 with 50% internal fuel is comparable to 4th gen fighters carrying fuel tanks.
