  2.  @tinyknott  The 2008 financial crisis was partly caused by credit rating agencies being pressured to dish out AAA ratings to the subprime mortgage bundles. If rating agencies did their job, the banks would go elsewhere and they'd lose income. If the rating or safety agency is privatized to this degree, then the whole thing needs to be privatized and the agency go bankrupt once they're caught in a controversy, making their rating look useless at best. If an agency can get private money and not lose its reputation or monopoly, there's a perverse incentive in the market.
