  1. The crew of the Graph Spee were taken back to Germany in 1946 by the British ship Highland Monarch, they were escorted by HMNZS Achilles.

  2. The Altmark was designed and built for the Kriegsmarine along with three sister vessels, one of which ended up in the USN. The Ship was armed. The Norwegians should not have allowed a Kriegsmarine ship into there territorial waters.

  5.  @dovetonsturdee7033  The Altmark had a full cargo of East Texas light crude loaded in Port Arthur. It is that oil that would have been refined. In later years various Greek owned ships piped light crude direct to the diesel engines, some times successful, some times not.

  6. Many of the Nazi Officers escaped from Argentina and went to Peru where they were taken by Japanese Liners to Japan. From there the went by the Trans Siberian Railway back to Germany. The commander of U 162 Fregattenkapitän Jürgen Wattenberg was one of these man.
