  2. Liner is not necessarily a passenger ship. A Liner is a vessel sailing on a set route, usually a cargo ship, example SS Example sailing from London 10th, loading for Cape Town, Singapore and Hong Kong. The Passenger Liners were also on a set route usually taking cargo as well as passengers, Cunard for example sailed the North Atlantic to USA and Canada, Union Castle sailed to South Africa. Cruise ships are not Liners. Vessel without a set route picking up "Random" cargo were called Tramps.
