  1. The British and I suspect the Canadians were finished fighting, they had been at it for six years, not one year. Russian had still not declared war on Japan, so if they had been attached they may have become Allies. Winston Churchill was now seen as a warmonger and was voted out of power. Not sure how this escalation would have been seen in the USA.
