Having a Japanese last name doesn't make you Japanese. There are 4th and 5th generation Japanese in the US and Brazil, that don't speak Japanese and have never been to Japan or know their ancestors. People don't come to Japan to have anchor babies like they do in the US. There are a few foreign couples that live and work in Japan for International companies or Embassies that bear children in Japan, does that make that child Japanese?

When Nissan and Uniqlo comes calling, are you going to turn them down? Not! Especially when you don't have to speak Japanese in the commercial. Tommy Lee Jones does it for Boss coffee.

She wants to represent Japan because of commerce. She will and are getting more Japanese sponsorships than American ones. She is a non factor now in Japan because she isn't winning. The Japanese media doesn't cover her anymore but if she wins a major again, they will jump back on the bandwagon.

For nationalities sake, she can pick either. She can live wherever and visit easily both countries. It's more about economics. She makes commercials in Japan and only speaks English in them but will have more opportunities in the US because she can navigate better in the US than Japan. She rarely visits Japan and doesn't really embrace her Japanese side.
