Rolman80 80 For Asians rural means very poor. Rural people are those who have to work for $ 300 the entire year on the rice paddy, or similar. Secondly, if you are born in Manila, then rural US is just the opposite of what was your life. And to the size of Americans, believe me, not only she's shocked.

She tried to express how shocked and unprepared she was, but she stayed polite. I can imagine the culture shock, because I know the Phils and I know living rural in western countries. She made it because she has some people personally taking care for her. Not everyone is this lucky.

@christofl6523 I believe she is used to these things. Manila is not exactly the city of angels.

@gardensofthegods No. Because she got a job that is much better paid than in her own country.

@christofl6523 She would not be able to make it culturally and socialy. It is very hard for a Philippne woman to leave her family.

@USAMAURICE42 This is the American dream - reality! Philippine people generally have no problem going along with any race and colour. They are mostly a mix of 20 different colours themselves. But Philippne woman just need their families like we need air and water. Without knowing her personally, I know it was super hard on her. And the rural US, hmm ... is sometimes not even easy forAmericans.

@kateli1880 It seems even USD 2000 per month only would be about triple as what she gets in the Philippines.

@jobelb.garcela9476 She's living with a family, I assume a basic health insurance is being paid for by the school, the taxes are not high in the US. And if you live rural, things aren't really costly, if you have a reasonable lifestyle. I expect she can send at least 1/3 home. Philippine women are working abroad everywhere, and you know better than me, they usually would give almost everything to support their family well. Unlike many Phil men.
