  6.  @anchored555  For me Pisa is a joke, it does not prove anything much. I am glad to read that you got another kind of school and yes, I do recognize some teachers are a bit more progressive and endeavour a more modern approach. Indeed, if I knew before what I know now, I'd know what to look for. In maths 0 points instead of 4, because my son forgot to round the result. The result itself and the working were perfectly right. Another one also was correct, but he did not underscore the result as required. Or, he had all workings and decimal calculations correct through his working, but as a result he accidentally put the dot wrong, i.e. 52.5 instead of 5.25. Do you realize how the banding works? Two, three minor mistakes and the AL drops dramatically. In literature, he wrote a great story, but at the end he was missing 2 minutes to write one or two finishing sentences. Every single teacher says his writing, story telling and descriptive texts are always good. Teacher deduced so many points that he failed, and his class had 50% fail rate for this essay writing exam. Thanks for your reply, I am gratefully reading your positive experience ... but it's not only one single teacher at his school. What he has to do and how they teach is 60s for me. In the last WA2 his class had 50% fail rate in Lit, in Maths 90%. That school believes that pressure makes them work harder. I was very sad when I learned this. The perception of the students is rather this: It does not matter what I do and how hard I try, teachers rate and score whatever they deem fit. It is one of the prime schools by the way.
