"If you try to make every nickel and dime out of the company, instead of making the product better - this is how companies die" Instead of a sustainable business, this is the system so many companies are following.

This is a clear opinion and straightforward words. We need more people like you.

Believing is stronger than knowing.

Exactly, Doc. Volt. It is a universal law: If other companies see one of the industry leaders is getting away with that, then the bad behaviour will receive industry standard status. Some people might think that you are happy because it means more repairs for you guys. I think that is actually not so. It is indeed bad for you repairers. And here is the reason why I think so: If expensive branded products last only two years, then people will turn to cheap China-ware. Why spend more for what is in the end the same crap? Use two years and throw away. Therefore, a product also has to be worthwhile to be repaired. Only then a satisfied customer will be bringing his device he was so far happy with to a service station.

PS: In Germany we believe all these small and medium sized family owned companies, this is the salt of the earth. There are the jobs, and there is the knowledge.

Asians are good with refining, not with inventing.

They (the Apple buyers) are not able to follow half of what you are saying. They will keep on throwing their money at Apple.

You really do not need a $ 1000 phone. Unless it would be service- and upgradable for the next 5 - 10 years. It is the highest time things are made for people, for the benefit of the people. And not to make a handful of rich shareholders even richer.

Yep, I did learn something. We can see the similar issue with Youtube. Some system does something, and later people do not even know why that something happened. The matter quickly gets complicated, so that there will be no gain explaining things to someone who has not been involved, from a call center, and sometimes not even speaking your language well. This will be our future, when more and more things are being automated.

Customer gives an iPhone 12 to a Rossmann Phone Repairs. Rossmann changes a part. The phone boots up, but comes back with a couple of weird things not working well, such as Fingerprint reader, camera stabilization only for the front camera, flash for portrait mode. Customer complaints. Rossmann tries to repair, unsuccessfully. Customer thinks: Oh holy cow, I wasted all my money, why did I go to this jerk? Why didn't I go to the Genius Bar right from the beginning?

I have a Sony LT25i, user removable battery. Water-resistant up to 1m for 30 min, that's sufficient for most. The phone was launched in 2012.

If the place where you live needs hostile design everywhere, if the police looks like and is equipped like the army, if 10 % of the population or more has no job or a job they can't rely on and make their living from ... then your country is not worth to live in.

Skillshare, Brilliant, NordVPN, Sharespace . . . I'm sick and tired of them

FOSS first, only if there is nothing available I will look at commercial products. Hardware, I don't buy anything that I don't fully own after purchase, or where I can't change batteries.

What's the problem here?

I don't want to be forced-watched these ads, I also don't want to pay 15 Euro membership fee a month for this Youtube club. If then Youtube does not want me anymore, so be it.

Canon uses a little container with a sponge inside for collecting the ink from cleaning processes. Head cleaning is automatically initiated every few number of pages, or if the printer was off a certain number of days. If the sponge is fully soaked with ink from the cleaning processes, the printer will disable itself. The error message will say there is a fatal error, the Canon service will quote the repair at a cost near to a new printer. The sponge is not user exchangeable. The entire printer is fully functional, nothing is broken at all. Epson uses typically a page counter and will simply disable the printer after a certain number of pages. You can switch it on, but it won't move its printing heads or anything. Some other printer companies just use a timer. I had a hardly used Brother printer die after 3 years even though it was like brand new. The sales person, which I knew well, told me it's the timer.

Almost nobody cares for data privacy, because nobody really knows what is stored there, and how. There are explanations and educational instructions, but for the average user this is all far to elaborate, laborious and complicated. And also taking action requires usually a knowledge most do not have, or do not care to have. The example is Futo. Who would know it except people who know already about their private data privacy?

In both cases below the customer has to be made aware he does not own the device, but it is sort of rented for usage, until it's broken. - If a device is not meant to be repaired, then the vendor should indicate it - If a device is intended to be repaired exclusively by the manufacturer, they should indicate it. And both with absolute clarity.
1
When will it be that they disable the device whenever they decide for you it's time to buy a new one?

I used to be critical towards credit card companies. Now credit cards actually do look user-friendly.

95 % of the people who sing up for an 800 or 1000 dollar phone do not sign up for a good phone but for prestige. For taking selfies and posting some junk on Instagram you don't need a 1000 dollar phone.

If the printer cost x money and prints y pages and then stop, and they would say that openly, it would be more honest than what they are doing now.
1
@xPreatorianx1 The consequence? I do not buy a printer.

That's an ugly place

If you read Genius Bar somewhere, then you should know what to do: Run, run like hell!

Thanks for this information and insight. As far as I know, lenses can be made to submit data to the camera body, which this then recognizes and applies correction values to make the pictures look better. One example is correcting degrading brightness to the lens corners, another one is to improve pincushion distortion. This means It literally is not working as intended, if no matching camera is attached. If a lens was sold in country A but not in country B, this correction may not be applied and people might get a bad impression about Nikon. However, this particular lens was sold everywhere, as you pointed out.

Chinese become inventive and creative when living outside China. I live in Asia since 1995, my wife is Singapore-Chinese, and I lived in China, too.

@retroand I agree. But that is 1000 years ago.

Safe money, safe resources, support people with repair knowledge, get a value for your money! Companies have to make again products for all people, and not to make a few hundred shareholders even wealthier.
