  2. Exactly. Too much noise for nothing. And I like classes. I use them in C++ and PHP also. So classes in JS are user friendly for me.

  6. 45 years old here, never hired. Hired at this age as a junior is nearly impossible. But I am not starting now, I flirted with programming since 2010 in my free time. I learned many things but nothing to master, never applied. Like HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, C++, Assembly, Computer Architecture, MySQL, Relational Theory, Laravel, Vue3. I am rank 3 on Codewars in PHP, JS, and C++. I know about Big O and its relatives, I understand the math behind it, I can argue about the efficiency of algorithms. Now I am building two applications (SPAs with Laravel + Inertia + Vue). So I guess my only hope is to make a good resume with complete apps and maybe some real world apps for free. My plan is to do as many apps for 6 months full time and if nothing appears, I will look for another job, but continue applying.

  8. I only used ChatGPT. It gives me verbose code, like three nested arrow functions when in fact you can refactor to use only one. Sometimes it hallucinates, aka giving me things (libraries) that do not even exist. It helps a lot too. But it still needs a human that understands the project and guides and corrects AI when needed.

  9. Meanwhile AI isn't capable to give me a working script from the first attempt (except memorized letcode). And I have to look myself what is wrong. Or propose 3 times bigger code than needed.

  11. I hardly believe this. They invested billions in AI, now they have to justify that. I use AI too, you can't trust AI. You have to check every time if the code proposed by AI fits well in your project. And ask again for modifications and verify again and so on. If you are a skilled and experienced developer you can do it yourself with the same speed.

  14. How much low level do you want and how much curiosity do you want? I started with HTML and then JS, PHP. Still didn't find how computers work (interpreted languages) and I searched deeper, C++ and Assembly. This is what you want? I can make full SPA apps with Laravel and Vue3. I am rank 3 on Codewars in 3 languages and in front of many hired developers. Will you hire me as a junior if no degree, no experience and 45 years old?
