You know, I have a tendency to pre-judge based on political views if I know how the creator thinks or where they lean. It's bad, and I always try to go past it and not let it cloud my judgment. But you are one of those people I follow that I really do not know nor care where you lean. For the most part almost every time I hear something from you is based on critical thinking and common sense. Like not once I thought "Oh this guy is lobbying for X or Y". You actually always talk in favor of freedom, people and their rights to not get fucked by companies. That's enough for me to care about what you might have to say. That on top of the fact that you're an experienced... engineer? and business owner. That counts too. And cats. Good strategy.
I want to make an addition to my comment but not related to the point above: Someone down there said "I don't understand why people are so willing to be owned by the corporations". People DON'T want this. I'll give an example of every day real life principles: Most people do not like it when you tell them truths that are abrasive, personal or touch a "nerve" or something they might be upset about. It happens to all of us. Some of us have grown and matured and learned enough to take the hit and think of it 5 seconds later and accept that might be something we need to work on and improve. But a lot of people can't, especially nowadays, they take a lot of things personal and mix it with what they believe.
For this thing in particular, I don't believe people WANT or LIKE to be "owned" / "effed" by companies, but they get CONVINCED (lies) on why they AREN'T and how things are convenient for them. On top of that, situations in life and companies shape the environment for this to succeed as a "chipped bit by bit" type of thing rather than a big swift strike. I will extend this with a real life example to make my point.
My country has a devastated economy thanks to the past 20 years of governments, who basically did this. I live in a rural/countryside area. There is only ONE WAY to have internet service, by a company called Internet Services. This company seems to provide internet across the country SPECIFICALLY to rural areas where the cable infrastructure is non existent. This sounds great... on paper. They have virtually the monopoly on these areas. There is no competition and there is also no infrastructure done by government NOR PRIVATES. This means there is no incentive at all to provide a better service, care for the consistency of the currently provided one or have a competitive pricing. With the new elected government, apparently there's been talk with Elon and Starlink is speeding up the work to be available. Subject to change, but in theory everything goes well we might be able to have Starlink service by the 2nd trimester of next year. This is the premise, now imagine the company we have now (We have 10mb - this means downloads of 1 Mb/s max -connection by the way, over the air by antennas - It's... something) scared of the competition and bigger company from outside starts sending their current customers (meaning us) "contract notices" or some BS like that, asking people to "stay with them for next year" and locking them down into contract with them. For the sake of the argument, I know this is completely outrageous but let's pretend they say "Hey, sign this contract for next year service or we'll cut you off". This would mean we either get stuck with them, paying their rates with their service quality OR we give up internet connection completely up until Starlink is available (which is not know exactly when). So with this you can totally imagine some people that are not very savvy, would sign in on it. I know the example is a bit unreal, but I don't feel is at its core, any different than car companies "slowly taking away your things and putting them behind a paywall, excusing themselves later about the costs of manufacturing and service maintenance, trying to justify their bullshit". By the time people realize what's happening, both the companies and the system that regulates things (meaning governements) have already cut out the work and done it! This is why in 2023 people still buy Apple products without much hesitation or complaints. Or why we all still use Windows and pay for it. Adobe. Automakers. John deer. I don't need to tell you the list, Louis. You are much more of an expert fighting corrupt government/lobbyists than me (fuck NYC!).
So thanks to you in the past months I've learnt not to blame the victim when someone else does something nefarious. Yes we can criticize and tell these people to "learn for next time and be careful" but we should totally be pointing things out to the ones that do it. In conclusion, I feel this take of "people like to be fucked by companies" is basically saying "Lol, society is so dumb. How can you be so dumb, society? Can't you see? Well if you can't see it, might as well let it happen to you, dummy". And it's an indirect justification to all these SoBs like the psychology professionals that make gacha games saying "oh is not you the ones that are wrong, is the people that can't realize your bs".
Last, I agree with you and this video. I also am not the biggest fan of Elon Musk. But sometimes he feels like a necessary evil to have around. It's the joker card that you can use to turn it into a "enemy of my enemy...". Like people saying "they're not going to do this and that" are clearly oblivious to the last 10 years of human history and how things have shaped up, lol. That's it, thanks for the space. I Wish you very happy holidays Louis, and cannot wait for your January video saying NYC sent you a fine for enjoying Christmas.
