I agree that it might not be EASY but it certainly is very SIMPLE. As Dr Mike put it: If it has no side effects, it has no effect.
Anything else that does have an effect, consuming more will be harmful, depending on what it is. Doctors don't know everything, and some of them have a big ego, but generally speaking, it's as simple as don't self medicate and don't drink or eat things that are not food unless you are told by your physician that you have to do so.
THAT SAID, at the same time anything that is regulated, doctors a lot of times are quick shooters at prescribing meds, psychiatrists as well. So is not like if it's regulated by the FDA and "approved by your doctor" is going to be good all the time.
There's this thing of many many people on anxiety medication when in reality they shouldn't be on that. Clonazepam and such.
Last but not least, you forgot to define "drug" in this video first, or at least maybe that's a different angle on this matter. "A drug is any chemical substance that when consumed causes a change in an organism's physiology, including its psychology, if applicable. Drugs are typically distinguished from food and other substances that provide nutritional support."
If they were having mushrooms or whatever that Lion's Mane is, that'd be a drug, not a supplement. Or we can define supplement as well. For this case in particular, we'll use this one: "Something added to complete a thing, make up for a deficiency, or extend or strengthen the whole."
Maybe I'm stupid, but as far as I read those two, I don't see they exclude themselves. So going back, if they start having mood changes, can't sleep, palpitations in their hearts... that's a change. And clearly harmful.
The key thing is probably lobbying is super strong and that is why they won't change the regulation unless people wake the f up and demand it. Imo, they should be regulated like drugs and given under prescription.
