  1. This extreme cases scale sucks. The "allow everything, zero moderation" or "moderate everything and allow nothing" situation is terrible. There was a certain channel that was basically not shown on Search if you were inside the US, apparently. I am not, so I searched and the channel was there for me. But all the U.S residents couldn't find it. They could find results of other channels and videos talking about said channel, but not the channel specifically, even though the channel wasn't banned. (It was perhaps what we called "shadowbanned"). It was also during some election times, I think. This is a problem, because with the algorithm being a closed source and private code, we can't really know if indeed Google/YouTube applies it equally to every piece of content, or not. And seeing how YouTube works in general (for example, the fact that I get 8 out of 10 recommendations from channels I follow or similar, and then 2 videos that last 20 minutes+ with 700 views or less from channels with 100 subscribers - which isn't bad on itself, but it's a weird way of the algorithm to work), I don't think it does. But can't confirm as we can't see the code. Another example, is verified Twitter accounts from Hollywood actors with claims in favor of certain economic systems or countries as "heaven on earth" (such as Cuba). The most recent one, is where Mark Hamill joined the rest of Avengers (while they were saying Avengers Unite) suddenly speaking fluent Portuguese in support of Lula Da Silva, the recent victor of Brazilian presidential elections. It could be argued "they were all personally just voicing their opinion", which you can't argue with as no one can read someone else's mind or know true intention. However, the context showcases that it was something else. And at that point, while Twitter may not be responsible of it, that is another part of social media/internet that could also be used as "recruitment". On a counterpart, also on Twitter, no Elon Musk is the CEO (or owner I guess), and it's been said recently that he implemented, allegedly, a new algorithm that would boost his own tweets to everyone, with a bunch of people saying they have been seeing a bunch of his tweets much more, even though they don't follow him or already said "show less from account". I personally haven't experienced that in particular, I just keep seeing his tweets normally, so can't say whether or not that is true, but I wouldn't put it past them lol There is no real win here unless experts like you and other content creators work as advisors in the making of the legislation and this takes idk, a year to discuss so it's well done. Because if they don't do anything, it stays as it is now, with all the problems we have. If they do something and do it wrong, we could see an insane shift in how the internet is used.
