Why? USA is same. But it also aligns with the left lane being the passing lane. So it makes sense with driving. But if you drive on the left side of the road so the passing lane is the right? Or is passing lanes not built into the driving culture and down to the walking culture? I only ask because this is built into grocery stores and a wide variety of social activities in the USA. Carts go on the right side of the lane. Unless you're passing someone who is stopped. Same thing with walking through a parking lot. Or heck, walking on a street without a sidewalk.
