  6. Turkey wants in for the economic benefits, the EU does not want Turkey because Erdogan will start all kinds of trouble and the overall economic benefit for the EU won't change by adding a weak Turkish economy.

Yes unfortunately the "greens" had a lot of influence over the current government so we've had some really stupid decisions about things like that that's going to bite us in the ass the coming years :/. We don't actually need to import energy but to be honest I think it's good to produce extra so we can at least help our neighbours, I mean they need it and they pay for it so why not...

As soon as election is won (or lost) Sweden and Finland will be accepted. Turkish politics is whatever Erdogan wants it to be, the Turkish parliament will do whatever the leader says. That's how you stay in power for 20 years.

  11.  @kimzeysmith6704  You don't know history, as a fellow Swede I can inform you that in our last war with Russia we lost 35% of our male population in the war. We did not become neutral because we wanted to be friends. We became neutral because our population could not sustain warfare with the major European powers. There simply was no way to replenish the losses from war with such a small population. There was no way we could be a powerhouse after the devastating loss in the Northern war. 200.000 soldiers dead when we only had a population of 1.3 million - half of them being women? No way we could be a powerhouse after that.

  14. Of course Finland is in range of many Russian cities having them as part of NATO is a nightmare for Putin. It's also making it almost impossible for Putin's future plans to invade the Baltic states if NATO has access to the Baltic sea from Finland and Sweden.

  19. Disagree, EVS are not the future. They work alright in packed urban centers perhaps but on the countryside they are useless. Besides if the powergrid goes down everything stops not very convenient. Also the price point is just ridiculous, it’s a good option for wealthy environmentalists I guess. Yes China makes evs a lot cheaper but the result is they don’t pass eu and us safety standards.

  26. No it's just the result of a peace time military that has got 0 combat experience and having corrupt leaders putting funds allocated towards army equipment and training in their own pockets. It's the same in China generals and officers will request funds for a military exercise consisting of maybe 200 troops then spending 1000 rounds of ammunition then report back to their leaders and say it was 1000 troops spending 10.000 rounds of ammunition. They receive all the ammunition and equipment which they then sell off and put the cash in their own pockets.

  35. It's a lot more complex than that, Greece has a much much MUUUCH better human rights track record and freedoms that Turkish people can only dream about. There are many issues here, Turkey's oppression of minorities, Erdogan's Autocracy, Weak democratic institutions, Border disputes, lack of freedom of speech, censorship of newspapers etc etc. It's just not one thing here there are plenty. A lot of EU countries have Muslims on minister position and government positions it's totally possible to bridge and co-operate with Muslims.

  36. To be fair a large amount of people that "own property" really don't. They took a loan for that property and the bank is the true owner of the home until it's paid for which is usually around when it is time to retire. You can't say the person owning property have 1000 more because they have to pay off that loan too. Even if you rent an apartment out your monthly loan payment will be higher than the rent you get for someone living there.

  38. Well you do realize that stores will have to be refilled somehow right? The food doesn't just magically appear in the supermarket it needs to be transported there. Don't mean to be rude but it kind of sounds like you assume everyone can work remotely and everything will be within walking distance. Maybe if everyone lived in a small rich country like one of the Northern European countries like Sweden or Denmark and worked with like say software engineering that you can do from home it would work yes. Truth be told the vast majority of the world's population doesn't have the opportunity to do so. It would be incredibly expensive you would have to rebuild whole cities to accommodate for the increase of people on the walking streets, the buildings are too tightly packed for your idea to work in a big city. Maybe a small town could work, just trying to imagine Shanghai with 20 million and everyone will walk/take the subway. Sounds like a nightmare to be honest.

  40. ​ @asozialesnetzwerk  To be fair that's around the number for Sweden more or less - would not be surprised if Germany's numbers are somewhere in that area. You have to remember it is not 75% income tax it's in total. You pay income tax in Sweden that is anywhere between 35-55% then you pay 25% VAT on everything you buy. Don't get me started on Alcohol and fuel. You even pay tax on your pension. All in all at the end of the day a large part of what you earned goes to the government, my parents in Sweden pay half their salary to the government already so adding VAT and all that I am sure they would reach around the 70% mark easily. Well why don't you invest? Yeah good idea ooh right 30% tax rate on any profits made on your investment, nice! That's one of the reasons I moved to Asia when I had the chance, used to pay 40% income tax in Sweden now I get the same salary with a tax rate of 8%, half of that I get back in tax reductions for having children and so on.

  41. It's just a regular scheduled maintenance it will be up again. The Russians don't have anywhere else to sell that amount of gas. The pipelines to Asia can only send about 20% of what Europe receives so unless Putin wants to say goodbye to 80% of the revenue he still needs the EU to buy the gas for now.

  45.  @theonly6359  Power of Siberia can supply 38 billion CM3 to Asia. Russia supplies Europe with almost 200 Billion CM3 with all the pipelines... add to that that they sell the gas at a discount to Asia this is a massive loss to Russia. Once they get more pipelines up sure they will be fine but for now they will lose too much money cutting EU off completely and I am pretty sure that this is just a temporary maintenance.

Sure there are bigger problems, the issue people is that those bigger problems usually boils down to "we don't have enough money" then when people see all the migrants coming in to their countries costing resources and wondering why the government has money for the problems of non-citizens but as soon as it's about their own citizens suddenly they say not enough money left. It is not the biggest problem it's just the fact that there are huge issues that needs addressing and EU is forcing nations to waste precious resources on non-citizens. This will upset most people, now it's at a boiling point so you can see plenty of anti-immigration parties popping up all over Europe. At least in my country if you check the polls most people want to limit migration but the EU is pushing all nations to take in more, when you have an institution that goes opposite of the will of the people then usually you end up with protests. That's just my country though cannot say for the other EU nations.
