Yes unfortunately the "greens" had a lot of influence over the current government so we've had some really stupid decisions about things like that that's going to bite us in the ass the coming years :/. We don't actually need to import energy but to be honest I think it's good to produce extra so we can at least help our neighbours, I mean they need it and they pay for it so why not...

@LyricsFred Not the same an Expat is someone who lives outside of their native country an immigrant is a person who comes to live permanently in another country. If you only intend to stay in a country for 2 years and then go home you are not an immigrant, you are an expat.

And now they are Effed because of it. When you trade the needs of your citizens for ideology...

@paddington1670 I love nuclear I must say though Hydro is pretty good if your geology allows it, Swedish here, 45% of our energy is from Hydro. Our wind and solar panels are shit though, people were so excited about them and whole areas went fully solar and wind. Now they regret it because they will get a power outage when the sun stops shining or wind stops blowing. Hydro is consistent and nuclear you can crank it up or turn it down when you need to. Nuclear is great and we shouldn't shut them down, the excess energy we get it sold to Germany - even if we don't need the extra energy we can sell it and Germany needs all help they can get - win-win it would seem. The greens don't agree though obviously.

It depends on geological factors if renewables are feasible or not in my country 54% of all electricity produced are renewable which sounds great but actually 45% of that is generated by hydropower, we're lucky we have a lot of running water. We have a lot of investment going into wind and sun but honestly they are just trash so much money and taking up so much space and still stuck at 9% and we get a lot of power outages in areas that depend on those sources of energy because the sun doesn't always shine and the wind doesn't always blow. Hydropower and nuclear you know what you get and Nuclear you can always crank it up or tune it down depending on needs. Anyway TLDR If your geology allows for hydropower then you are sorted and can probably close a few nuclear plants. If you are expecting wind and solar to replace your nuclear power you are delusional, maybe with better tech sure but as it stands now it's so unreliable and very ineffective.
