Turkey wants in for the economic benefits, the EU does not want Turkey because Erdogan will start all kinds of trouble and the overall economic benefit for the EU won't change by adding a weak Turkish economy.

@Sami-gi1ld To be honest if Erdogan leaves and Turkey takes steps going for a more secular type of government and sorts out it's territorial issues I can see it happening. Sure it will take time maybe 10+ years but I don't see it being impossible.

It's a lot more complex than that, Greece has a much much MUUUCH better human rights track record and freedoms that Turkish people can only dream about. There are many issues here, Turkey's oppression of minorities, Erdogan's Autocracy, Weak democratic institutions, Border disputes, lack of freedom of speech, censorship of newspapers etc etc. It's just not one thing here there are plenty. A lot of EU countries have Muslims on minister position and government positions it's totally possible to bridge and co-operate with Muslims.

@noobaction7720 Sweden and Finland never voted against Turkey's EU ascension, you are spreading misinformation.

really? I know there is going to be an election probably I didn't know the reason was so Erdogan could skip the laws about a third term though.

You don't want the EU but you want our money lol.

I think it's possible, maybe not now but when Erdogan is gone and if Turkey goes for a more secular type of government with less infringement into Turkish people's freedoms, solves it's border disputes with Greece/Cyprus and stops oppressing minorities, why not? Right now it's not realistic but in 20 years who knows? It all depends who comes after Erdogan.

Huge power spike economically? Turkey has a worse economy than Spain even before they got their inflation and Spain's economy is considered very bad based on European standards. It will be a nice addition geographically but Turkey's economy is very weak and they won't contribute much to the EU market. Turkey wants to join to gain free access to the European market. Erdogan is free to create his own "Turkic Union" if he wants but I seriously doubt it will rival the economically benefits of having full access to the EU market. I don't fully disagree with all your points I just don't think adding Turkey will add much to the EU economy - it's a weak economy.

Zaydan Naufal LOL are you trying to prove that the EU has some sort of Islamophobia based on the color of their flag???! Okay dude. Considering how many Muslim refugees the EU has taken in from all over the Middle East it doesn't seem like they have any problems with Muslims. but yeah They have a blue flag so they must be secret Muslim haters.
1
That's irrelevant there is nothing stated anywhere that you cannot join if you are a Muslim nation.

Then why are the EU taking in massive amounts of Muslim refugees and allows them to join European countries government bodies? Plenty of governments have Muslim mayors, ministers and all in all kinds of government positions these days. How many Christians or Jews does Muslim nations have in their parliaments?
