This is just strength based on the number of aircraft in use, a high tech latest gen aircraft still counts as one the same as a 50 year old plane. The UK lack the numbers but they do have considerable quality latest generation technology. It doesn't really matter if you send out 2000 ww2 era planes they will still get crushed by a few modern fighter jets. Just look at the Israel - Arab six day war, Israel was outnumbered massively in terms of aircraft yet they had air superiority thanks to superior quality aircraft.

@amishsingh8301 Not spreading hatred at all, this list is about number of aircrafts in use. It takes no account for the quality of said aircraft hence why you can see North Korea so high up on the list even though their aircraft are old and in need of modernization it's just a fact. I am not sure why you are so obsessed with India I did not mention them at all? Also I am not from the UK at all nor do I have any ties to that country I was just pointing out the very (in my opinion) obvious fact that it's a list about numbers not about quality. About the Arab - Israeli war it was just to point out how a nation with inferior numbers (the arabs had at least 4 times the number of aircraft than Israel) can easily dominate the skies with superior equipment and tactics. I am sorry if you feel offended but that's just the facts they don't care about your nationalistic feelings, next time try reading a text before assuming every single comment is about the UK vs India. I am honestly very confused you came to that conclusion, do you have some inferiority complex going on over there?

@studyhelp1965 Pretty much like most successful empires in human history then. The strong will rule the weak was the motto of the day back then. Still is the same today to some extent.
